Help Resizing Ceiling in an existing Building..
-
Hello. I am new to sketchup and BRAND New to this forum but excited to join and hopefully contribute. For now though, I have to just take. Hopefully I'll be able to give soon enough.
On to my issue. I have been searching and searching and trying to get this accomplished but I just can not. I am not sure if I am just not doing things right or if my model is flawed and therefore making it really hard.
I have spent time adding significant details to my house (significant is relative - Significant to me) and I now realize that I created ceilings that are 12' tall instead of 8' 4" that they are in REAL life. This is creating obvious problems with my designs. The model itself has 2 floors and a roof. I am trying to get the 2 floors resized correctly but not resize the whole model since that will screw up the room dimensions.
Hopefully someone will be able to help me.
I have uploaded my model to http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=9db415db7b187c306942ffb48668cb12
Thanks.

Carlo,
I didn't download your model, so sorry if any internal complexity makes this answer impossible:
in the "camera" pull-down menu uncheck "perspective"
chose one of the standard views (front, back, sides)
use a window selection to pick all the stuff from the roof and down to below the first floor windows, then move them down 3'8"
unselect all, then again pick the roof down to below the second floor windows, then move that stuff down too
all better!
If I'm off base let me know and I'll download and check closer...good luck and WELCOME!

Carlo,
I did download your model and saw that "fortunately" (though so to speak not too "wisely") you did not create any more complex geometry from your building so what Tom was suggesting, seems to work:
-
select (with a left to right drawn selection box) everything that is above your first floor windows (i.e. ceiling between the 2 floors and all above)
-
Click anywhere in your model with the move tool
-
Before starting to actually move, hit the up arrow (to lock your move in the blue axis)
-
start moving but before clicking again, type the exact amount you want to move and hit enter.
-
repeat the whole thing with the roof and the top ceiling selected in a second run.
-
You still may need to "reposition" your windows a little bit on the vertical (blue) axis to fit to the "new design".
