How to create an undulating roof?

Hi guys, ive been playing around with the 'follow me' tool trying to get this but it’s just beyond me at this point!
Basically I want to create an undulating roof - much like the one at emirates stadium (http://www.wayfaring.info/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/emirates_stadium1.jpg) - one that curves in 3 directions.
Can anyone assist?

Soapskin Bubble plugin MIGHT be helpful in this case. Though I have never used it myself, this plugin have been discussed here before, try searching.
