I just tested this on four different Macs IntelMacBook Pro, G3 i Book, G5 iMac and G5 dual. The same results in all with Safari v2, older Explorer for the Mac also downloads as php (but one can rename on download pane). Latest Opera and Firefox both download correctly. The Safari and Explorer download "download.php" which can be manually renamed/extended to work--best both name and extension since name is always "download". A few come in as "download.php.html" these do not work even when renamed and extended. Skp files do download fine with Safari from the still existent Google Pro Site, Google groups is too much trouble to navigate to, so I didn't try. I have had this happen, on one CAD forum with the same board software (different file types). This leaves me to believe it's something in the handshake between the board software and the Mac browser for uncommon file types since image files download fine. I can't find a downloads setting in Safari. I wonder how it works with the PC Version of Safari?

Recently I have downloaded Safari 3 beta (for Windows). I can testify that it downloads the skp files as php. (I have other problems with it, too, so won't use it too much - I just want to make sure that when I build a website, it works on Safari/mac also).

i have just read on a brazilian paper that safari for windows is not yet working that well. may be the downloading problems have to do with its beta status.

Yes, Edson, beta is "just" beta for sure. Yet above some complain with Safari on MAC (though maybe they also use some beta version?).

i doubt it because safari comes with the operating system. i never heard of any mac user buying safari. if i am not mistaken, you can even download it for free from apple's site.

Well, I'm not a MAC user so I may be mistaken but there is, indeed, a Beta version for MAC, too here:
http://www.apple.com/safari/download/I don't know whether those posted these problems above use Safari 3 Beta (for MAC) or not. What I can tell that my version of Beta 3 (for Win) behaves exactly as faulty as described above - and of course I cannot compare it to earlier (non beta) releases for (as far as I know) this is the first release for Windows.
Also some of them testified that they had no problems with skp downloads on other sites so there may also be some problem on "our" end here, too.

they certainly released a beta version for mac, as you say, and very probably both versions are faulty. even being a mac user myself i do not use safari that much (except to access my bank account). i used netscape for some years and lately i have been using firefox.

Firefox has so many advantages over any other browser I know that I can't imagine switching. Especially the very many add on's make Firefox truely customisable.
But... bugzilla is still growing fast. And none of the bugs I ever reported has ever been solved...I guess bugs are as much a fact of life in cyberspace as in nature...

one of the most useful of those add-ons is foxmarks: it stores your bookmarks (favorites in other browsers) somewhere in cyberspace. this means that you will never lose them in case something bad happens to your HD and, if you work in a network and want to have the same bookmarks in all machines (my case) foxmarks will synchronize them automatically.
cheers.

Its not a Beta problem. I have Safari v2s on all of my Macs. Zip files do work.
