I figure I'm lucky if I understand 10 or 15% of what you guys say here. Rendering and the technical aspects of 3D modeling are all over my head. But this I do know. I couldn't be more pleased to have found SketchUp. What an great program! And though I'm sure it has all been said before I would like to send out a big thank you to the folks at Go-to-School for their pod cast tutorials. After watching those I came away knowing this was a program I could use. Now if I could just get hit by some devine instruction on Cheetah3D I would be a very happy camper. Right now you couldn't get even money on wether I figure it out or get institutionalized.

And thanks also to those of you here who take the time to share your expertise.

Hey Jim, it's good to have a new member of the SketchUp community! Keep that enthusiasm and you will have a lot of fun making models!

My suggestion is to get the basics of Cheetah (experiment logically, and reduce variables), and then ask some specific questions. You'll find a wealth of knowledge, but without knowing what you need it'll be hard to guide you.

        Just a thought!

        Cheers,

Thanks Craig. As soon as I know enough to know what I need I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions!

Jmac, you're in the right place for sure... thats what I got from the old forums too, I learned something every visit... even if I wasn't looking for it... and here as well we're starting to get the base questions built up... and now a lot of discovery is being done... as you probably know I visit here very often... its a constant learning experience... with some of the most professional and experienced SU'ers out there... we're pretty lucky to have this kind of tech support on call...

I totally agree with all of of you, jmac, dylan and kristoff.

go-2-school's podcasts are great (i've learned a lot from them) as is this forum. SU users are blessed by having the largest and best support network amongst all the apps I know. and for free, too.

I daresay that this forum will in time be better than the old one. the move to GG caused a rebellion that resulted in a place that is friendlier and one in which everybody seems to be assuming a very active role in creating, mantaining and making it grow.

                best to all.

                  Hi Jim,

Cheetah is a great piece of software! I use it primarily for renderings, but the modeling side is also very powerful. I, too, knew nothing about modeling (other than in Sketchup) when I got Cheetah and it has been a really exciting learning curve.

Rendering, for me, has been all about experimenting different things. It can be frustrating at times and I am still only happy with about 25% of my final renderings, but I am starting to get a good grasp of settings that seem to work.

The Cheetah forums are really good! There are a bunch of really experienced guys there who are very helpful. They are located here: http://www.cheetah3d.de/forum/

Welcome to the club here! I think you will really enjoy your time here. Talk about helpful and friendly!

                  Cheers, Chuck
