1st Car - Need Help w/Mirror
-
This is a very quick, crude model but I am having a wee bit of difficulty w/mirror. I'd also like to be able to quickly change the coordinates WHILE in the middle of copying, rotating, placing a circle, et cetera.
Newbies are such a drag . . . hope you like the car . . .
Thanks,
GT

what exactly is your problem with mirror?
-
I think he wants help making one.
Just swipe one from the 3D warehouse.
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/Type in auto mirror. There are some cool cars there. Download and swipe the mirror.
Just a thought.

LOL - you guys are funny! No, no, no, I don't need "a mirror", I need to know how to mirror objects. Like, for example, the four curves for the headlight - how do I mirror those from the right side of the car to the left side?
Danke,
GT

just highlight the items you want mirrored... right click, and go down to 'flip along'.... and pick the axis...might take some experimentation with the axes.. it flips 'along' the axis...

See the video. Copy the geometry and use the Scale tool to do the mirroring.

Dave R, link to the mirror dovetail box video was great - I learned some very helpful info, which makes me realize even more how cool this software really is.
Is there a thread where we can post "stuff that's not architecture?"
And yeah, I know the effects added to this image are really cheezee (sp?).
Thanks & happy sketching,

Another one . . .
-
GT,
This board is not about architecture but about SketchUp. True that most of the members (and users of the program) are architects but even they are delighted when seeing some different stuff (you will meet a lot of non-architect members here - I myself am not an architect either).
well, back to your car; I suggest you to always use front faces (some of your faces in monochrome view show the back - blue - face). If you are modelling cars, you will soon wish to render them in external rendering programs and most of them just cannot handle back faces.
-
besides the flip tool, you can mirror things using the scale tool or installing and using the ruby script mirror.rb (which can be douwnloaded here.
-
Since the car has symmetry, you might take another path - that is cut the entire car in half front-to-back, and make the half into a component. Make a copy of the component, flip it and position it to create a single car.
When you do this, you only need to work with half the car.

Well, nobody told me SU was addictive!
There are so many things to model - to design! This is embarrassing, but my degree is in Industrial Design - ironic because I really don't consider myself a "creative" person. But, it's all about fun because my income - fortunately - doesn't depend on how creative I am.
Thanks everyone for the help - very much appreciated.

Brothers, and Sisters,
Bring a new forum.
I bring an old image of funk.
Locate the threads where you will, as it's a big wide loom, and there are many sheds, and infinite heddles to employ.
So, go with your insightful flow, and bring your best funk.
Once, a bit back in the day, I was doing a bit of "cash design" for a gamer game dude, I met this artist -- very talented -- and he kept all his colored pencils in a shoe box, just in there mixed together all "shaken," and "stirred."
Most art jockeys keep them in a bit of a rack of some kind, or at least in groupings by like colors (and this crazy talented art squirrel had a billion Jack Bird colors in that box, all brands, all makes, and all lengths)
So I'm like -- "So, dude man, why you keep all your action in such disarray? Your pencils in such a state of messy nest?"
The dude, says, "Simple, this way, when I look for a color, I end up finding the one I need, rather then the one I want..."
That is killer.

Brothers, and Sisters,
Jack back on the Donkey attack -- or drink from a natural born "bubble" hose.
Modelhead, your on it, so keep the vise tight, and don't forget to bring it.
Bring it hot, and bring it home.
Remember back in the way back when this SU action was so new and on? The juices bare knuckle bloody -- yet to run clear?
Yeah, we had love then, love with sex attached.
Now? Not to much, perhaps, and the sex has been reduced to "scratchy mitten" pulls and push punches -- for me at least.
Sad.
So yeah, I found this awesome collaboration recently -- who made the rocking motor rod again? Killer model to be sure.
Fire up the grill, it's time for a sandwich.
More ahead, I hope, bring back the intercourse -- bring back the Push -- bring back the love.
