3d terrain
-
G'day,
a topic I have been fighting with for some time is the creation/import of a 3d river bed item/terrain. My ability to create a realistic item is about as useful as a box of matches for building a barn.Is there a way to import usable 3d terrain as is for a river/stream bed into my model without going through a mountain of prep and a mensa course designed for space exploration. Simple stuff rather than video clips etc as I do not get on with video tuts please.

Guessing a bit here, have you tried searching for river courses that you know to be dry at some times of the year and may have been recorded by the satellite during such a dry spell? Import the DigitalGlobe terrain in SU and texture as needed. Higher resolution imagery may be available but will be subject to copyright of course. Always assuming you are not working on a specific location as the fine detail is usually absent.
If it is a small area you are working on - just a house on a plot say, again search for likely looking terrain anywhere on the globe then import and reduce it in scale. For instance, the Grand Canyon in the US might do the job if shrunk to the size of your plot. No messing just search and scale.

Thank you, much appreciated.

Does anyone know what the level of clarity/accuracy is (e.g. 60cm, 30cm, 15cm, etc.) for the topographic data in the location terrain feature of geolocation? I have a number of geolocation tiles that I imported into my model in SU2020 as well as in SU2021 using the 'Add more imagery' Geo-location feature, being sure to have the 'Show Terrain' option checked. I have attempted to do this with having the tiles locked as well as unlocking them, with no success.
