Since SketchUp doesn't offer thumbnails for 64bit systems, and Windows has since Window7 disabled the option to run 32bit Explorer it's been impossible to see thumbnails for .skp files under Windows7 64bit.

I contacted the author of MysticThumb, a shell extension thumbnail generation for a range of various file types, asking if he could add support for .skp files.

Sure thing! Here it is: http://mysticcoder.net/mysticthumbs.html

      It works great!

Thanks. From what I understand this is of use especially for W7 rather than Vista users (32 or 64) as they retain thumb preview (outside of SU) and preview of anything larger than a thumb remains a dream.

In Vista 64bit you still don't get .skp thumb by default in Explorer. But you are able to run a 32bit version. (Though from what I've heard it's not 100% stable.)

Basically, this app is useful if you run any 64bit version of Windows and want improved thumbnails.

              Hi,

I use also Windows 7 64-bit Prof. but doesn't have a Problem with the SKP-thumbnails. Maybe an adjustment in the File Options will help. The yellow marked option has to be disabled "Always show icons instead of thumbnails" I am not quite sure whether it is in English Windows is that.

But in your screenshot there is the watermark for MysticThumbs on each .skp thumbnail...

                  Sorry Thomas,

I installed it and simply forgot it. Shame on me. I'm sinking in shame. The watermark even I have not noticed.

What I have discovered only this evening is that Explorer crashes when you click on a photo or graphic file with the right mouse button. Although this bug should be fixed in version 2.06.

Another thing i noted that it was not more possible to insert graphics inside the e-mail(Thunderbird). After deinstallaton of the Program and restart of windows both problems were gone. But the thumbnails are displayed further.

OK, I'm sorry, I thought I had seen them. Must have been in xplorer2 lite (free), which has a preview pane which does display them.

Wow- Thank you thomthom- I've been scratching my head about this one. This has happened to me before a few years back when I think it was when they released a new beta version of SU... I wouldn't have ever thought that it would be a 64x bit incompatibility issue. One of the first things I did on my new machine was to go and turn off all of the fancy shading, animation and transparency windows thinks it needs to look like MAC (woops did I just type that out loud?!?) I did notice that I couldn't get the icons to show a preview and I thought that was the logical place to look. Sure enough you can tell Windows Vista and 7 to turn off icons. When that didn't work I gave up and came here... Thanks thomthom- SU wouldn't be the same with out you...

So when are the SU people over at Google going to come out with a 64x version of SU? Seems way way behind the curve...

On another note- you seem to be so good at solving problems... I'm having trouble with my girlfriend, she seems to think I ..... 😉

                            Thanks again.

                            EDIT- JULY 5

Ok- I downloaded mysticthumbs, took it home, loaded it and it worked great. What I did notice is a huge performance slowdown with all my other software. Everything seemed to be running great before I loaded and after I uninstalled MysticThumbs so this leads me think this was the culprit. Anyone else have similar issues? I'm running vista 64bit.

I use FreeCommander on my 64-bit windows 7 machine and I can see all the SKP files as thumbnails inside FreeCommander.

Just in case anyone needs to know.

                                    Hi All
XNview (free) will show Sketchup thumbnails too.
                                    Win 32 and 64
As I remember one must config a thumb setting but this does work.
Also Irfan View will show PDF thumbs.

                                    👍

None of the Software seems to solve my issue. I am running latest Windows 10 and Latest Sketchup 2020.2. Have tried all the tricks available on net you tube etc. But my sketchup thumbnails are not visible. XnView, or Latest Mystic Thumbs is also not helping. I could see only thumbnails of latest downloads, which are skp 2020 version. Any skp file which is older is not visible. can someone help please? many thanks
