Changing Stroke Colour

Am I being an idiot? No matter what version of Layout I have always had the annoyance of when I want to change the stroke colour I click the colour box next to Stroke in the Shape Style panel, select my colour from the Colours panel and nothing changes. I repeat the exact same process and this time the colour changes when I select from the Colours panel. What am I doing wrong? It's so annoying!

If you want to change the color of existing lines, they need to be selected first. If you want to change the color for new drawing entities going forward, you need to have the appropriate tool selected before changing the color.
