      Hi everyone.

I have been modelling up my favourite whisky bottle as a bit of a challenge. This bottle has 3D lettering in the glass on the front of the bottle.

I've attempted two ways of achieving this effect.

      1. Modelling the geometry on the front of the bottle.
      2. Projecting a bump map onto the front of the bottle.

I'm much happier with the bump, the lettering looks better, more like part of the glass and it doesn't force the unsmoothing of the edges in the way the solid modelling does. See image.

What has happened with the bump map, and where this falls down, is the projecting of the map onto the curved face of the bottle distorts the representation of the solid materials viewed through the translucent materials of the bottle.

I thought i'd open this up to discussion, if anyone has any tips or suggestions that would be great.

<Edit> Bump map is the bottle on the left.
