Helix on a curve replacement?
-
Hi
I need to find an extension that does what Helix on a curve did.
Using SU 19 and or 20
Any advice? -
You could try Helix Along Curve, that works quite well.
I'm going to guess that you recently upgraded to a newer version and tried to copy your plugins over. You need to install the updated versions for many of them to work correctly in the newer versions.
And yes, the current version available from the sketchucation store works in 19 or 20. -

Thanks for the reply... however 2017 is the most recent it is compatible with.
That don't mean that it will not work in newer versions.

I have installed this anyway and it is "Unsigned" and don't work.... help? Is there anything that dose the same thing.
Unsigned has nothing to do with working or not. How did you install it?

That Extension [like many others] hasn't been supported for a while, so its page probably says 'compatible with v2017' because that was its last iteration.
However, it might still be compatible with newer Sketchup versions.
It's probably not 'signed' for newer versions, and so it reports as 'Unsigned' in the Extension Manager, and it might not load because of that, BUT if you have your Extension Loading Policy set to 'Unrestricted' then all compatible unsigned Extensions will load...
You'll need to restart SketchUp to effect the changes. If it still doesn't work report the errors etc...

Before replying to your post I installed and checked the the extension was currently working in 2020 and 2019.
Here it is at the default settings on a Windows machine, this doesn't prove it will work on a Mac.As to another extension that does the same, I don't know of one off the top of my head. But it does many things so describing what you are wanting to do may help us suggest something suitable.

Hi All
Thanks for the replys. The extension is loaded and in the extensions manager it says enabled, however no menu item appears or icon, I am running an 8 year old Mac! I am getting a new PC shortly due to apple overpricing! I will see if it works on that. Meantime I have re downloaded SU 2017 which it works fine on.I need to create a vacuum hose (see attached image). Any ideas welcome.
Once again thanks in advance for your advice.

Quite often those hoses aren't actually spirals, rather just corrugated. I can think of a few ways of doing this.
Here's a quickie using Fredo's Radial Bend. Another would be Shape bender.
A lot depends on the final usage, it could even be a smooth pipe with a texture.

A couple of quick late night renders, extended the tube and bent it to give a couple of realistic kinks.

Thats great. Many thanks
