Exporting into LO from SKP for Patent Drawing Hatch etc
-
Hello, I have Sketchup pro 2018 and have drawn a 3d model that I would like to import/insert into Layout for purpose of Design Patent rawings. I understand Layout has greater ability for shading/hatching. I am trying to import a 2d image with no background (just the model outlines) so I can just select parts of my model for pattern fill etc.
Any help appreciated!

The hatch patterns in LayOut are part of the fill options for LayOut drawing entities. They can't be applied directly to the SketchUp viewports. If you want to use the LO hatch patterns on your model, you have a couple of options. One would be to use the LayOut drawing tools to trace parts of your model and apply the pattern to those drawn shapes. Do this on a layer above the model viewport's layer so you can keep them separated. Another option would be to render the viewport as vector and then explode it so the lines become LayOut drawing entities. You may need to do some splitting and gluing of lines to get closed loops for applying the patterns to.
You might give SketchUp/LayOut 2019 a look. I expect you would find the dashes feature very useful for a number of things in your projects.

Thanks Dave. Sounds like a bear either way. I saw where someone took their model into Adobe Illustrator to do the hatching. That sounds like an easier method...

You could just apply the hatch patterns as textures in the SketchUp model. I guess it depends upon how much of it you have to do, too. I don't think I'd go the Illustrator route unless you are going to skip using LayOut altogether, though.

OK Thanks.
