Partial randomization of a grid of symbols
-
Hi all, I want to joggle the positions of a lot of symbols that are on a radial grid - see jpg attached. I thought there was a script that would joggle the positions of many objects according to simple parameters (like my example in the enc. jpg), but it mustve been a false memory!
Does anyone have a script that will at least randomize a rectangular or square grid?
The case is an experimental acoustic planting based on sonic crystal theory. The original rule this came from was:
"each tree is moved from its regular position, and placed randomly in the zone equal to 1/5th of the distance in between the trees". That was written for a square grid though.
Either my rule or the one above would be great.

One sort of manual way would be to use random select, then move those selected, rinse and repeat.

You could try with my plugin: https://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=JS_Random_Move

Thanks everyone for your ideas - sdmitch kindly sent me a short script which did the trick.

I have updated the script to 1.1 now with support for older SketchUp and some new features.
