The vanishing section plane
-
Hi all, am hoping this is a simple solution for someone...
I have been cobbling together a model, to better understand how a proposed building will be framed and supported on site. To this end I could see the value of some sectional views, in order to facilitate discussions with the client, who will be an owner builder....
I did a search, read a little, watched a tutorial and set about the task of applying a section to my model.
Now... upon firing up the section tool, I have on the screen a green square, with arrows at the corners. This changes aspect as I present it to a variety of faces in the model. Although, I note, I did not have the orthogonal lock by using the arrow keys that one user suggested should exist..
Subsequent to committing to a section location, the model is cut in two, but the section plane vanishes...
I was led to believe it would continue to be available, such that it could be moved, copied etc.
I checked my view menu, to be sure section planes were checked and also hidden geometry, for good measure. Nothing has revealed the section plane...
Where else should I look...?
(some files attached as a description)

What do you see if you set the camera to Perspective? Are your model axes in their default location or have they been moved?
It's odd the the section plane shows so small in your first screen shot.
What version of SketchUp are you really using. Your profile indicates SketchUp 2018 Make but there is no 2018 Make. Your screen shots indicate you are using Windows XP. Is that correct?
Sharing the SKP file would make it easier to help sort out what's going on.

Sure, thanks...
Changing the camera to "perspective" does not change the result.
I am using SU8 Pro under WinXP.
How do SKP files get shared..?
(I attempted the "upload attachment" facility, but, not unsurprisingly, the SKP file was too big...)

SU8 doesn't have the arrow key option and from memory doesn't change colour for the axis, only for selected and not selected etc. It will be small until you click to place it.
I would try zoom extents on your model to see if you have geometry a long way from the model that is making the section plane too big to see. Doublecheck that View/Section Planes has a tick next to it, not just the one for Section Cuts.
Your model needs to be less than 3mb to load in the forum. If less than 50mb upload to the 3d warehouse and paste the link here. Bigger than that and use a dropbox or similar file share and post the link here. Please correct your profile as answers for SU18 on a Mac are a long way from SU8 on an XP PC.

Righto...
I zoomed out and took a section of a model I couldn't see, resulting in a very big section plane presenting itself on the screen (see attached)..
I'll work out how to deal with that later...
I do have a dropbox link to the file below, as this is fairly easy to produce and the 3D warehouse is not familiar to me..

Thanks very much for weighing in on this.....!

So... I turned on every layer and found two instances of a sewer manhole, way out in the corner....

Nevermind my previous note. See how it works once you get rid of the manhole. That seems to help. But if you keep losing section cuts, try moving the model to a new file.
