Component Definition #1, #2 etc
-
Hi,
I'm having a strange issue with 'duplicates' of components being created when I add them to my model from a library. Basically it seems like sketchup adds a new version of the component, and not just another inctance of the same component, and applies a # suffix. It doesn't let me remove this suffix as it says the component must be unique, and even if I delete all of the original non-suffix version of the component out of my model, I can't then rename the #1 versions. I am assuming there is some kind of cache which is not cleaning out to let me place or rename new versions of the component. There are no other iterations of said component(s) in the Outliner amd exploding and recreating the component in the file doesn't help either?
I've trawled a few forums and not come up with anyone else having the same issue though, so any help would be much appreciated!

If you want additional instances of a component in the model space, add them from the In Model collection instead. That way you won't create multiple component definitions.
The behavior you are seeing is intentional and makes sense. If you were to bring in, for example, a window component and modify it--make it wider, let's say--and then drag in another copy of it from the Window collection, that new definition would overwrite the old definition and remove the edits you'd made. As it is, if you bring in a new copy of the window, it will come in with its original properties and not affect the one you changed. If you want more of the one you edited, bring in the new copies from In Model instead.

Thanks Dave, pretty simple when you think about it that way!
After I posted this yesterday, I found all the previous versions in the models component library and deleted them, thus removing all the # numbered versions which were confusing me!
Thanks for the quick reply and solution.
