I need a free of nearly free version 2016. I am strictly and always have been a private hobby user and enquiries always direct me to buy a pro 2018 version ca £500

Also I dont trust these evaluation versions which expire in 1 month. my doodles could be wasted

I cant afford that outlay for a hobby (interested in geometric solids)

I wouldnt mind if the version was limited to inhibit commercial use, like preventing import/export, only saving skb and no printout

I'm confused, what version do you have now? Your profile says Pre-6, and yet I see files from you that have been made in the 2016 version.
What are these evaluation versions that you don't trust?
Why do you want 2016 specifically?
There is a Make 2017 version available directly from the download page.

I have been fiddling with SU since pre SU4, almost when it first came out, cant remember that far back.

I dip into the SU box from time to time. Some of the later extensions will only work on >2013 and Ruby 2. SU8 I have has Ruby 1.8.6.

So maybe I need 2013 although most of the new ones from SUK need >2016

Files from 2016? I didnt think I ever used 2016 unless its very very recent and I DIDNT UPLOAD ANYTHING so how can you see these files? Is there some intrusion into my pc I dont know about

I think I looked at 2017 and its only a months trial and then buy 2018 for £500

like I say, I am only a hobby user

I think you're a little confused. If you install SketchUp 2017 Make, it starts out as as 2017 Pro but reverts to Make at the end of the 30 Day trial period, not SketchUp 2018 Pro.

You can get SketchUp 2017 Make as well as 2016 Make here . SketchUp 2016 Make will also start with a Pro trial but revert to Make at the end.

What extensions do you plan to use that won't work in SU2016 or 2017? The majority of older extensions have been updated and you should install the latest versions from their source unless you enjoy chasing loading errors.

Well indeed I have been confused and will follow your advice thanx (you can see why I would be concerned if my doodles ended up inaccessable after 30 days. I have been and ardent fan from the begining and will now hope to remain so

As for plug ins, I came across 2 great tools, trilateration by SLBaumgartner which will construct accurate triangles and tetrahedrons. i di the math some years ago but never managed to hoo up with a Ruby wizard to put a gui on it.

Then there's the unwrap and flatten - Alex Schreyer

both are exceptional tools but need Ruby 2 >2013

I came up through the Acad route and any 3D was a nightmare so SU was a revelation but sadly never suited to making engineering drawings and would these days come anywhere near the goliath packages such as Aveva PDMS

Still I would recommend it as a good starting place to get the feel of the 3D world (vs 2D) before moving on to becoming a CAD professional

I did fiddle with sketchy physics for a while but found the engine was basic and limited. you couldnt assign real mks parameters like density, friction . In the mass spring damper models the results weren't accurate enough to be useful - pity and I think the author moved on (to some paid work? - 10 years ago)

So you should be all set with SU2017 Make.

To put your mind at rest, there is no intrusion into your computer, you simply need to look at your earlier posts. You posted multiple times in a MSPhysics thread and uploaded several files.
                https://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=56852&p=611559#p611559
When I open those file they tell me they were made using 2016.

So I was just trying to work out if you needed a new version of an old version or a version to reinstall what you already had.
Because 2017 Make would be the easiest available, but If you did need 2016 because you have an older OS then I would have given you a link to download the older 2016 Make. But if you had it on your computer previously I would have suggested you could look for your original install file.

Simply put, giving full and accurate information an up to date profile and avoiding vague references, along with explaining your needs clearly, helps us answer your questions with the most accuracy.

No doubt some will think this post impolite, but I'm just trying to help make things clearer.
