Want to be able to see face shape when editing texture
-
Hi,
Is there anyway to to see the shape of a face when amending its texture? Maybe I've missed something, but when editing a texture in Photoshop you only see the original square texture. I have a wing that I want to amend the texture of and it would be really useful to see the actual wing shape as I do this.
Hope this makes sense.
Regards,
Chris.

Take a PrintScreen of SU viewport and put it as background layer in Photoshop. What's the problem?

Select the wing/surface & make it a Unique Texture (right click context menu). Right click context menu again and this time select Texture/Edit Texture Image. This should open the unique texture in your default image editing program and will be the shape of the surface. I use Gimp so post is based on that. Edit as needed and in the Gimp File dropdown click on Overwrite ***.jpg. Back in Sketchup the texture is updated.

Hi Shawb,
Brilliant. Thanks for that, exactly what I wanted.
Cheers

Hi Shawb,
Sorry to be dumb, there doesn't appear to be any 'make unique texture' options when right-clicking any of the faces on my model.

Make sure that you have only selected the surface/face and not any edges i.e. just one click. If you are working with a group or component you will need to open the group/component for editing and then select just the surface. Hope that helps!

Hi,
I've taken a look at my model and I'm only selecting one face but the option is missing. I have included a screenshot here.
Thanks.

Hi Shawb,
OK, got it. The 'Unique Texture' option doesn't appear if you have the 'Face Style' view set to anything other than 'Shaded with Textures'. I had mine set to monochrome.
Makes sense now.Apologies. I can now play around with this

Cheers,
