Advanced modeling - old worn wood
-
Hi there
For a project i'm working on i have to build a roof structure of an existing old building. I attach a photo for reference. Modeling it in a twisted and irregular way is very important for the project (it is a super photo-realistic image)
Can you suggest me a plugin or some particular technique i can use to simulate this effect?
Thank you in advance

I was experimenting a bit with this for a project I was working on a couple of years ago but then the project changed and there was only a exterior shot so the beams were not visible and I didn't put any more effort into that.
However I came up with this possible solution.
First I used Fredos Round Corner Bevel on a slightly divided beam and then used either my own Randomizer script or Eneroths https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/eneroth-fractal-terrain-eroder to get a slightly randomised look. The plan was to then use Thomthoms subD to continue detailing. Another possible way would be to use Booleans with a couple of shapes that look like the chipped forms on the beams.
For rendering much can be done with a good normal map texture.
Just some ideas.

Interesting method, great result.

Wow! Great result thank you. Another question. How did you manage to map the texture correctly? When i apply the material every face have a different mapping and the result is a mess

You might want to check out the jitter plugin:
