I have a 369 Mb model that has been reduced to 127 Mb
by copying it all and then in the same model by clicking to get a new file and paste it in it .

    Amazed and thankfull ,.

I would like to think that this is just an odd way of purging unused (components and materials). So yes, it is possible.

      p.s. .... but riscky!

        You are right .
Purging the model does the same . ( I actually forgot of that option )

But in my case now working with the riscky model is better than working with the purged model .
It does run much faster , as expected .

        Thanks for your thought .

You not only purged model, but also restarted Sketchup. I guess that's why it runs faster.

switch on all layers and unhide everything before doing that.

The model itself isn't riscky. The fact that at some point (in time) you have no model at all but the one that you saved to clipboard, that (to me) seems scary. Easy your model gets lost due to an unintended action.

There is no risk if you make regular copies before every serious change.
