Landscaping masks
-
Hi Everyone,
I'm curious if anyone could point me to a library of Landscaping masks for use in Layout?
I realize this is often done in Photoshop, but I can see a path to having a scrapbook full of plants, trees, rocks, etc. that will mask my model view on a layout page.
Specifically, I am hoping for simple line drawings of these elements that can have the fill toggled off and on to mask items behind them.
I suspect in order for the fill mask to work these would have to be drawn in Layout rather than created in another program and inserted into Layout?
Has anyone created such a thing? Willing to share? If anyone had a good library I am willing to pay for it as well.
Attached is an example of what I would like the landscape "masks" to look like:
Thanks!

I think I figured out what I was looking for.....Just needed to create .png files with transparency and drag them into Layout. Can't toggle the fill on and off, but good enough.

I guess the question is how to import vector information directly into the drawing space of LO. Since, other than Richard, no one would choose to draw in LO. I've not explored this. Wonder if there is a way.

Edit, hang on, that doesnt work, needs transparency of course, duh.
Will have another think...Thought I would have a go at this.
Drawn in SU, saved as scrapbook file in layout.
Filled and unfilled version.
You can change the line weights and apply sketchy styles. And of course they are vector.
I would be happy to knock some of these out if you are interested.

Here is a PNG with transparency, same as your method.
Might have a go a la Richard in Layout...

Got it. This is SU and Layout only.
Drawn in SU, Vector model exploded and ungrouped down to single entities. Then regrouped.
At this stage you can change the line weights, fill etc.
Warning, once you have any stage of the Layout file as you want it, save it. Layout seems to be a bit twitchy with this operation and you might have to revert.

I've tried to explode a SU reference. Grayed out. How is this process done (how did you get put it in LO etc.)?

Insert model in LO or send to LO from SU.
Check Vector is on.
Right click model window/Explode/Ungroup/And depending on how far you drill down you are then left with a bunch of vector entities which can be manipulated with LO tools.

Vector! No wonder!

So one can import all sorts of drawings from CAD for this sort of thing. Thanks,

Baz,
You are great! I didn't even think of drawing in sketchup first, then converting to vector in layout! Genius! Thank you! Much better than my png version. I'm glad I didn't spend too much time building a library of .png. I'm going to go at a scrapbook library your way in Layout.
Cheers!

Good, thanks. Show us a few examples when you have some...

Richard should probably tune in here! There are a ton of DWG tree files of this type all over the internet. Download > drag into SU > compile > drag SU file to LayOut page > vector > explode > ungroup > you may need to run the join tool around > set outline and fill > save as scrapbook.
Be mindful you can have some really heavy geome'tree in Layout as a result!
The beauty is that you have both, a nice set of trees that match for use in both SU and LO.
