My suggestion is to skip Rhino. Draw the model in SketchUp making each piece you'd cut out of wood (or MDF, plywood, etc.) a component. You can do all of the detailing in SketchUp and then use the resulting model for your sheet optimization. You can see the process of drawing a project made of sheet goods here.

As I already wrote, I think you'll find your time better spent if you do that instead of trying to repair your Rhino model in SketchUp to make it usable.

Most of the things I draw in SketchUp are woodworking projects and I know it's much easier to draw things correctly than to fix things that aren't right. It's exactly the same as building projects for real.

Maybe you can use the same trick than from MOi to Sketchup! πŸ˜‰

If you have yet different group inside Rhino
Export as 3DS format ! (if its existing)
          Import inside Sketchup
Explode one time inside SKetchup : you have all your different groups! πŸ˜‰

You could have drawn the model in SketchUp from nothing in the time you've spent screwing around trying to get it out of Rhino.

                  No, no, no! πŸ˜„
You must export as format 3DS! (if Rhino has it )

                  Seems it has! πŸ€“

In MOi3D export as 3DS format permit to keep the "Group(s)" inside Sketchup! 😎
export as SKP don't permit that!
For Rhino I can't say i have not this beast! πŸ˜„
