Give that child a hand, brace
-
I need to make a brace for a contracted toddler who is very contracted and frail. The brace would be the hand and forearm. The brace would extend from a "half pipe" supporting the forearm to the hand. The hand is contracted into a fist now, but I can extend the fingers and palm so that the hand would look kinda like it is holding a glass of water--so that she can grow into a more or less "normal" hand position. My problem is to use the hand model I have to make the palm and fingers "fit" into custom grooves to maintain the drinking position mentioned above; keeping the fingers curved a little and spread would decrease her pain a lot. I don't have the pro version to subtract the palm and fingers from the solid block to make it custom, so I need some "workaround" help. But once done, I could easily fit the forearm "halfpipe" onto the hand to complete the brace. Any help would be help me help my patient.

There are several ways you could do this, perhaps the most straightforward way....
Using a copy of your hand model position the block within the hand, once you are happy that it lines up the way you want Explode both the hand and the block. Then select all of it and use Intersect with selection.
Now you can delete the parts that you don't want leaving you with a block with finger and palm depressions in it.
You may need to scale everything up to account for any small face errors and you might have to stich some edges together if it hasn't intesected fully in parts.

I can remember making a brace about 30 years ago.

Box, you are brilliant. It worked!
Thank you so much and anyone else who even tried to think of a solution. I has made an amazing difference in this kid's pain level. -
I'm very happy it helped.
