[REQ] Symmetry tool
-
Looking for a way to mimic the Symmetry modifier in 3dsMax.
First I had the idea of using section planes inside components but my renderer of choice didn't like that so I'm now looking for another solution. What I would like it to do is to cut the selected object (could be nested geometry and non solids so booleans won't work) along a specified plane and remove what's outside the plane (like how sections work) and make a duplicate mirrored along the plane.
Am I making sense? -
I'd pay for that. Mirrored components don't work when you need geometry clipped to the mirror plane.

One possible solution,
Zorro2 has the ability to slice a model at section planes, these cut everything down the hierarchy of the selection. So if you have nesting it will slice through the various groups or components and non solids, within the group being edited.
If the section plane is outside a group it will slice through everything in the model.
One you have the slice you can simply remove the section plane and mirror however you wish. -
Forget Zorro. SU4U Slice\Detach is the one of the best thing happened in SU recently.

^^^what he said.

Thanks, will check that one out.

also try using the modified TIG mirror script, which removes the dialogue box after the operation to keep mirrored geometry by default. that, with su slice and dice, is a great solution

Would be nice to have some sort of bezier "lock" function for organic modeling so that creases at the mirror plane are prevented. Probably an optional setting.

Thanks for the tip of SU4U Slice.
Together with Mirror it works exactly as I wished.
