Divide face in triangles?

Is there an extension that divides a face in multiple triangles? with maybe a settings option that lets us choose aproximate size or number of triangles. I found Facesplit but it has problems with complex faces, and with faces that are "U" shaped.
This with be extremely usefull since practicaly all 3d editing mash modeling plugins for sketchup work only with triangles and cannot be used if model is made of faces with more than 3 edges. -
