Hi, I like specifying circular-laid tile patterns (see image) has anyone worked out a method for doing these? Real layings often use six or so different tile shapes, or some are cut down to fit.

Textures for tiles are probably going to be the lightest due to the minimal geometry needed but if you want to make 3D tiles, you could use make radial arrays of components. If you're going to scatter different tiles, you could start by placing all identical tiles and then use the Replace Selected option from the components window to exchange out as needed.

And after you've layed your 3d tiles, you could generate a texture from them and follow the first advice:

Quick question on this one - how would you create such a texture, just take a screen grab or use some other method within SU ?

I've created textures from SketchUp drawings by making an image export which gets imported back into SketchUp as a texture. Usually that means the export is done as a parallel projection and I usually have to crop the image a bit in an image editor but it's no major feat to do it.

With such a geometry is also easy to make it tile. You can also export a background black and tiles white and use this as a mask so you can blend with other textures/grunge maps and you can make your material.
