Align to axes flips to view from below
-
This is driving me crazy. I geolocate, move the axes to line up with a roof line of a building, tell it to align to the new axes... and it flips the view to from below! Why does it do this??? It only happens sometimes but this time I can't get it to work right with the document I am working on now no matter what I do! What am I doing that causes this? Please help! I have been working for a half hour on a thirty second task!

if you aligned the axes, why do you need a step of aligning to the axis afterwards? Can you upload the model or make a screencast to clarify the problem?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I want to put stuff on a rooftop aligned with the roof instead of the NS-EW axes. After loading the geolocation I go to tools > axes and align the red axis with the roof edge. Then I right click on an axis outside the geolocation image and select Align View. It flips the whole model upside down and looks at it from the bottom.
Like I said, it does this sometimes, but not all the time. I just tried it for about the 30th time and suddenly it worked correctly. I have no idea what I did differently, if anything.
I would REALLY like to know if something I do differently is making the difference (and if so what that is, of course) or if SketchUp is making my life miserable on its own. I have wasted an hour on what should have been a task of a few seconds.

If you redraw the axes you not only need to redirect the red axis, you also need to tell SketchUp where green needs to go. You skipped doing so and now blue points down.
When you right click on an axis in empty space and select 'Align View' green wiil always be pointing up on your screen. red to the right and blue towards you (perpendicular to the screen and out).
This means that you look at your model from underneath. Pay more attention when redrawing the axes to not only draw red but also green.
