Find problem geometry after validity check?
-
Hi All
Is there a way to locate any items in a model causing problems thrown up in a validity check? The check lists the geometry by numbered edges etc under the 'show details' box, but only does this after supposedly fixing the problems. I have gone to save a file and the validity check warning came up advising of problems, I let SU fix it and then saved it . However on re opening the file and then saving again, the same warning comes up with the same geometry to fix. This goes on ad nauseum and I still don't know how to lcate the offending geometry. I did manage to sort it using trial and error but is there a better way? Thanks

Nick, I assume you have groups and/or components. Do they show as "solid"? One thought would be to use Thom Thom's Solid Inspector². It could show where there might be problem geometry. Maybe run it before and after the vaildity check.

Yes Dave, it's a kitchen design with lots of components and groups. They are nearly all mine and are ok, I have not had problems with them before. I haven't looked at Solid Inspector so I will do so next. I assume from your reply thats its not possible for SU to 'tag' the offending items?
Thanks for the quick reply. -
Unfortunately SketchUp won't tag the offenders. it would be nice if it did. Usually when I have problems with geometry and SketchUp fixes it, I have holes in the surfaces. I use a back face color that is easily spotted when holes open up so I can find them. I usually have a good idea where there might be problems because of complex faces coming together.

Hey Nick,
Any area where you might have done an intersect of faces would be high on my suspect list.S

Ok thanks. Will have to work around it. I do have a bright green reverse face which is a tip I picked from you Dave from an old post.
