Geo Location white screen problem - SketchUp Pro 2015
-
When I try to grab a location, instead of the blue pins I get a white screen. I have seen some older posts about this problem, but no solutions. OS is Windows 7, 64 bit. I have an extensive collection of suggested fixes from SketchUp, but the problem persists. I've reinstalled SketchUp, tried 32 bit, done all the usual firewall and cache stuff to EI, all to no avail. Anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks for your response, Norbert.
I have previously tried each of your suggestions. I had not updated the Adobe Flash player, so I just did that, but it didn't help. I've also ensured that SketchUp is allowed through Windows firewall, removed the cookie jar .xml file in SketchUp, and tried 32 bit SketchUp. It must be an IE problem since I don't get the fatal white screen in Opera, but of course there's no way to import that into SketchUp. SketchUp tech support has been no help either.

any 'exotic' configuration, i.e. operating system on partition (SSD) and the programs on partition (HDD)?
if setting the internet security zone to "medium-high" (or lower) doesn't help, reset the whole MS IE settings to factory default.
and do launch SU by "right-click > run as admin".

the common procedure is:
β’ update the MS IE (which is solely used by SU) to the latest version (W7 = version 11)
β’ delete cache and cookies (of google.com/sketchup.com)
β’ ensure that the security settings for the internet zone of the MS IE is not set higher than "medium-high"sitting behaind a company proxy or disabling/blocking the integrated Flash player of the MS IE might have an influence too.

Nothing 'exotic'. Standard Windows 7 Home Premium, IE 11.0.9600.17801.
I reset all IE settings to default and opened SU as you recommend.
Same results; white screen when I "select region". -
Have you checked if 'WebTextures' is working?
if it is than IE and javascript are basically good to go and the issue is likely with google maps api...just a thought...

Better yet tell us what location you are using because in some cases terrain is not populated. -
if "C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015\ShippedExtensions\su_webtextures.rb" (and according subfolder) is not avail or blocked by a security solution resp. missing user rights, this may result in the described effect too.
install SU again by "right-clicking > run as admin" in connection with the Windows user account which should be used for running SU (i.e. not e.g. an admin account).
ensure, that plugins are not disabled at "Window > Ruby Console" by:
is_disabled = Sketchup.plugins_disabled?
ensure, that JavaScript (not Java) is not blocked by a browser plugin of your security solution.
