Hoping you can help--Trying to figure out why most of my SketchUp 8 files and my SKetchUp Pro 8 files. just will not open in 2013. My new files that I have created in 2013 are okay, but its hit or miss with anything earlier, including just opening models from 3D Warehouse or FormFonts. Heres what happens: Materials window pops up, looks like its loading multiple versions of "colors in model", the file shows, the daisy wheel goes on forever and it crashes or I have to force quit. Doesnt seem to matter if they are 12mg or 35. not even attempting anything larger.
I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.5 I have education licenses for all programs
      thanks!

Any chance you have the nSectionCutFace v4.4 plugin installed?

I am experiencing troubles with that one, mavericks, and SU14, with crashing and stalling as you describe.

        Cheers, Chuck

          thank you otb,
but no. Just working with Podium and VRay plug-ins. I loaded the new versions of both plug-ins when i upgraded. Although, I have dup Plug-in folders in Library>Application Support>Google SketchUp 8. I dont know if I uninstall/disable all that if there are files in there I need to run the newer programs. Which i guess is another topic. yipes.

I'm a little late joining this discussion, but it's the closest thing to what I'm experiencing. I have Sketchup Pro 2015. I have some older models I created ten years ago in older versions of Sketchup (not sure which versions), but suffice it to say I can't open them. This is bad because I'm doing a new project for an old client and I can't open my original model. The error message is simply "Failed to Open Model".

            Any suggestions?

at least let us know if you are also on a mac [or not], and what plugins you run as it may help...

Post an example model. You are asking us to guess...
