[Plugin] Skalp for SketchUp v2.0 (live section plugin)
-
I've pretty much been experiencing everything Chuck has... It's made me gun shy to use it on my next project because of all the work it took to get the scenes done and then to have them all gone when I get to layout. The tool seems a little over complicated at this stage.

120 free Skalp materials...
All materials can be edited with the Skalp Pattern Designer. You can change the size, the line and background color, and the line weight.
When exporting your Skalp section to dxf the patterns will be replaced by autocad pattern definitions.
Download the materials from the SketchUp 3D warehouse:

Will become a standard... Thanks!

If you like these materials, you can easily make them yourself with the Skalp Pattern Designer. You get the Skalp Pattern Designerfor free with Skalp for SketchUp.
The video show how you can make this kind of tileable patterns:

For a while that I want to try Skalp. Though with current projects I don't want to break my current workflow, I will try it on my next project for sure.
One question:
If I use this set of materials on my current projects withouth skalp installed, will they export as dwg hatches after skalp is installed?
That would make a lot of difference and I would anticipate Skalp trial, so I'm looking forward to your reply.

The short answer is NO. You can't use these patterns manually the way Skalp uses these Skalp materials.
But maybe if you explain your workflow today and show me an example I can give you a more correct answer.Guy

hi there,
got one more ... maybe its already said somewhere but:
custom cut planes/elevations would be awesome - so we could have cuts at different heights/depths at once...

We just released a new Skalp for SketchUp 1.0 maintenance release.
This maintenance release has a lot of improvements on DXF export:
- handle model units instead of inches
- patterns are scaled correctly in dxf
- drawing order fill, hatch and outline is corrected
- batch export to dxf of all scenes at once
- skalp styles can be uses to control the layers in dxf
- skalp style option to export sections in dxf to the same layer of the sectioned object
- the exported dxf is now zoomed out correctly when opening
The pattern designer now has the option to export all skalp materials for 2D use in Layout.
There are also a lot of other small fixes which you can read about in the release notes
You can download this latest version from the 'SketchUcation Plugin Store' or from our download page. You can also read the full release notes at the download page.

I am loving the "Align to object" feature. Makes my sections look prettier.
Skalp is now firmly in my workflow. To make it even smoother, may I suggest a small additional feature. When one has the Pattern Designer window open, I would like it to display the material that the eyedropper tool selects. It would make adjustments to how things look a little quicker. It shouldn't be too difficult from a technical point of view, as you can use the ToolsObserver in the Ruby API.
Just something to add to that list!
