How to obtain Sketchup Make 2014 free for hobby only
-
Hi, I am always told by other SVG designers/ hobbyists that Sketchup Make is free for ever to persons who are just making items at home for Non-Commercial use. I want to design my own 3D models of gift boxes to cut with a Cameo machine for my own decorations and family. My trial version runs out in 4 hours, and I certianly can not afford $500 license. I read on website under Sketchup Make the following on a bright blue webpage of a treehouse:
"Hobbyists, kids and backyard spaceship builders all agree that SketchUp Make is the easiest, most fun, entirely free 3D drawing tool in the world. We think you will, too.
Think you might need SketchUp Pro? Learn more >>Download SketchUp"
but download button leads only to Pro 2015 and it's not free.
Respectfully reaching out for help. I saw your forum and like the help I read in Newbie section.

I think you'll find that when the demo period runs out, it becomes Make unless you buy the license.
-
What does "Make" mean? That one can use it without the export options such as dwg and dxg?
-
Yes, Make is the free version of SketchUp. However every installation starts off with a pro trial period. After the pro period has run out, the next time you start SketchUp it will start as SketchUp make, and not pro.

I used 8 for awhile and then it got corroded. I downloaded it again, installed it, and it only lasted for 4-6 hours. after that, it wouldn't open up at all.
-
8 Pro didn't revert automatically to the free version. It's past history now, though.
-
Thanks Dave R. But, will 13, 14, or 15 revert automatically to the free version?
-
They are supposed to. Just get SU2015 if you are going to finally upgrade.
Actually, I don't know if the older, non-supported versions will anymore.
-
OKay, good news for me so far. Will Sketchup Make (2014) free version allow my continual exporting of 3D models in the DAE file extension/format?
-
I don't believe so. I think DAE exports require the pro version.
-
I just checked and the Make 2015 version has these export options.
-
My error. What about 2014.
-
Hold that thought Dave, silly me checked a computer that I installed make on when I arrived here. Less than a month ago, so it's still running the trial, have to dig out the other one that I originally installed it on when it came out.

We were both wrong, but in different ways.
In 2014 and 2015 Make exports .dae
