Importing PDF floor plans...

Hi folks, I'm using a PC and having trouble even seeing my PDFs when I try to import. I'm assuming I need to convert them to another format. Does anyone have any advice on what is the best format and any safe free (or cheap) software for converting them?

Use Inkscape to convert the pdf to dxf and import the dxf into Sketchup
ps. Questions like these are quite common. If you use the search function on the top-right of the page, you will get many answers instantly.
