      Hi,
I'm new to SU so I'm just asking a general question. Say I made a circle and used push/pull to make it a certain height and then made another identical cylinder. Is there any way to overlap two cylinders and delete one of them, thereby removing the space of overlap to create some kind of crescent shape?

sort of. An easier approach in such a case might be to overlap 2d circles then push-pull the resulting crescent.

When you have a couple of 3d shapes you can select them and choose "intersect faces / with selection" in the contextual menu. This places edges where faces intersect and you can then delete parts you don't want.

Since you have Pro, you can use Solid Tools to do this as well. Make components of each simple shape then use the Solid Tools operation (trim or other that will give the result you want).

In addition to what @pbacot suggests, this is an operation where you may run into SketchUp's well-known issue with very small Faces. You may have to scale your objects up, do the operation, and then scale them back down to avoid creating holes or gaps.
