Processor based software?
-
Sketchup I think uses the processor to do its thing, are most design packages (adobe, 3ds, vray) processor based or do any of them use the multi cores ?
Reason - I'm thinking of buying a new mac or possibly PC.
Thanks Andy

multiple cores are typically used for calculations which can be spread over several parallel threads as e.g. rendering scenes by slicing the resulting raster image, modeling operations are often of a serial nature with each operation depending on the step before and therefore cannot make use of multiple cores.
Spatial (a Dassault company) has some multi-threading functionality implemented for their NURBS modeling kernel ACIS already.
buy a high-clocked intel Core i7-4770 with a decent = dedicated video card (nVidia GeForce GTX series) and you're fine.

an intel core i7-4790K will give you the highest possible single core performance without overclocking today: 4,4GHz ...and an all core turbo of 4,2GHz.
