I am having issues with divides appearing on an otherwise clean face.
Meaning, if I try to use the paint bucket for instance then only certain portions of the drawing are filled and the surface is broken into many fragments......

If anyone has experience of this/ can help I would be glad of the help to join the surface into one clean block again.

It looks as if you've got two faces sharing the same space. Get rid of one of them and you'll be fine. Your graphics card can't decide which one to show so it does what you see there.

Or is the surface triangulated? Go to the View menu and turn on Hidden Geometry. Delete the hidden edges. If the bordering edges are all coplanar, you should be able to retain the face. If they aren't coplanar, though, you'll have holes.

Sharing the SKP file would be a big help.

Can also try going to the following menu:

          View > Hidden geometry.

You might have triangles there and you might even have things that are not coplanar.
