Trouble Saving 2013 to skp.8

Surely I am not the only one with this problem.
I recently upgraded to 2013 through my company. I have been using Maxwell render but do not have the latest version so I want to save my 2013 skp files to skp.8 and it is not saving correctly. I keep receiving a pop up telling me that this was created in a later version of sketchup and cannot be opened with version 8 even though I am saving it as such. Is there a plugin to fix this? I do not want to buy a new version of Maxwell.
Any suggestions?

Upload one here that doesn't work for you and we can check if it opens in su8.

Make sure that you choose "save as" and change to version 8.
Don't hit "save" afterwards in SU again, because this will overwrite the file with a 2013 version.
