I have this reference immage from the mexican architect Luis Barragan and wanted to remake the room in SketchUp. At the moment I have some problems with the yellowish atmosphere of the picture. As it seems that the environment colour doesn't have any effect i created a rectangular light with yellow colour, but the result was not very satisfying.
Do you have any tips how i could get this kind of interior lightning?

Easiest way would be to do it in Photoshop (or similar program) after it has been rendered.

Ok, Photoshop for the colour. Another thing that I couldn't find out yet is how to make the reflection in the wooden floor smoother. Is there any setting in the reflection layer (or any other) I can change to make that happen?

Chaos Group has a whole help file for Vray for SU. Really well written.

Do you know if there's a downloadable version of this document? I'd like to put it on my phone (long subway rides to and from work). I have V-Ray for Rhino and I have that user manual on my phone which is useful even though that document was written by someone with a less than perfect command of the English language.

Yes, you should reduce the "glossiness" value for highlight and reflection to something like 0.75 or so. Then you need to up the reflections subdivisions to something like 24 or 36 to keep it smooth (otherwise at lower values it gets grainy)
