Interested in roof modelling techniques
-
I am attempting to create roof models completely using sketch up by first using an aerial/satillite image of the roof (not google maps images so I can't take advantage of that built in feature) and then drawing lines over that image to create a 2D roof plan roughly to scale which I will then turn into a 3D roof model.
I'm new to sketchup and have just been learning it over the past few days. I understand some basics of creating a roof model with the 2D layout using some manual methods and the Follow Me tool and managed to create a roof close to scale (took me forever) but have a far way to go and am just looking for more information relevant to what I am trying to do, any good resources or advice would be helpful. Ultimately what I want to do with these models is lay out a solar cell system on the roof models using the plug in Skelion.
Right now I am thinking the best way to do this might be a combination of Manual methods and the follow me tool since some of the roofs I'll be working with will be pretty complex and I'd like to be as accurate as possible.
Thanks.

There are some plugins to make roofs. Of course doing it manually will give you more control but then a plugin might make your life easier.
