    This fellow used to build custom wooden interiors for private jets. He does this now as a hobby. The workshop, ADX (http://www.adxportland.com/ ) was the place where the last Portland SketchUp user group met.

    Somehow he takes flat pieces of wood (which consist of many smaller sub-pieces) and attaches them to others and grinds to match the globe's diameter. No special jigs other than the two braces at the bottom on which the globe rests.
