[Plugin] RichSection V0.5.8 UPDATED march 2015

Hi all

This version is for testing, and feedback please.

on mac
for those on Windows having problems to run this plugin

This test version has logging switched on by default.
A log-file is created, and can be opened.

Open the file (and save as) : Menu/Plugins/RichSection/Open logfile....
Copy the file. The file location is shown at startup (panel opening)and in the Ruby panel.

Logging can be switched off in Menu/Plugins/RichSection/Settings.
If problems, i would be glad to receive the complete log file (RichSection_log.txt), not just the last lines.

I also added the spanish translation made by Santiago Molina (caronte01). Thanks Santiago, also for the other corrections! Everything ok in the spanish dictionary?

this time after instal all looks like ready to work.
I started do same testing and learning how it works and ... crashed
however mac version is progress

Looks promising .... i was almost losing hope ! This is big news for me . Thanks for testing and reporting bimbachi
Can you give me some more information : What did produce the crash? Can you reproduce it again? What is the output in the ruby console?

Great news, it works on the mac!!!!

Well, most of it. The console still shows some errors, and it is very slow(core2duo macbook from mid 2010), compared to my work pc (Core I7). Probably has to do with logging.

I can update an existing rich section, and I am currently creating a new one, but it is veeery slow (projection depth default should not be no limit, it makes rs veeery slow). Also, parameter change sort of works, but it will not update changes directly. The section has to be manually updated after closing the dialog.

Legend creation works

Info, does not work, it stops expecting start, but no indication on how to (enter, double click, right click)

What else should I check?

You can try out without logging (RichSection/Settings >> file & console >> No), and switch only on for debugging if errors occure.
I still have to make some more videos:

projection : for most, it can be swiched of; it make sense for plan view (i use it to show the beams under the next floorslab in grey pointed lines)
info : select the tool, a RichSection sectionplan (or the sectiongroup), and than (without shift) a group or componentinstance of your model. An info panel should explain which sectionmaterial was or will be applied, and why it was applied.
update on/off : only for moving, turning the sectionplan; for model changes : still manual update
What else to test : use it and report what sequences don't work (error, crash, not as espected)
About the spanish translation : you can do it in the excel file (without testing, and send it to me) or the .rb file (notepad, you can test). Keep a copy of the original rb : a missing \ or " will prevent the plugin to start.

For some reason I'm not getting the faces of the section. The section cuts, it adds the projection but no faces.

For SU 8 and Mac, you need the last test version. It will become the next official version.

In a NEW model.... (Not opening an existing model)
create a closed box
group it
select the tool 'RichSection creation' ( the most left on the RichSection toolbox)
create a section through the unique group (important : wait until the plugin has finished : see ruby console)
copy and post the log file (when opening Sketchup, a panel tells you where the log file will be created )

As explained in the first post :
Elements don't have to be solid, but only closed sections will generate section-materials.
( and solids alwys produce closed sections)

In your rs settings, section was off (the first item on the list). Also, some of the groups/components in your model were non solid.

From my experience, rs works better with solids. I use tt's solid inspector a lot. RS works well with nested solids, and even with multi mesh solids (something native su solid tools has problems with).

Things to avoid:
Ungrouped geometry.
Dividing lines on coplanar faces, except when they are used to separate different materials.

Thanks for the help Santiago, I did have "Yes" selected when I created the section. as for the solids and such no.
