Update Layout 2014 with changes made to SU model
-
Hello
I recently completed my 1st attempt at Layout (I'm using Layout 2014). While creating the Layout views I had the SU model open and I could update the Layout views (right click and choose Update Model Reference) as I made changes to the SU model. Everything worked well.
A few days later I opened both the SU model and the corresponding Layout. When I made changes to the SU model and used the same right click procedure the Layout didn't update with the changes.
I'm wondering if it is possible to have Layout update with future changes to an SU model?
Can anyone help me with this? I appreciate any response I get. I've uploaded the SU model and the Layout - both are version 2014. If it helps I could save them as version 2013 or 8 and reupload them.Thank you,
Cam

What sort of changes are you making in the SketchUp model that aren't showing in the LO file?
All of your viewports in LO show as [Modified] which effectively breaks their ties to the original scenes in the SU file. If you are making changes to those scenes, it would be normal that the changes don't show in the LO file because the viewports aren't tied to the scenes you're changing.
If you want those changes to the scenes to show, you need to avoid making the viewports show as modified in the SketchUp inspector.

I repaired the broken viewports.
FWIW, you don't need to upload the SU file in addition to the LO file. The LO file contains the SU file anyway. And using SU/LO2014 is fine.

Hello Dave R
Thank you for your quick response. I see what you mean about the modified scenes. I have now determined that these are automatically created when I zoom/extents inside the viewport. The zoom factor of the default viewport that opens when I sent the model to LO was too far away so when I zoom/extents to fill the viewport the modified scenes were created. I don't know how to prevent this from happening. Do you know of a way I can zoom inside the viewport without it creating the modified scene? Also, what steps did you take to repair the broken viewports?
Thank you,

Yes, when you zoomed in the viewport you made them modified and you broke the link to the original scenes. Preventing the modified thing is simple. Don't do what you did.
To fix it, I first reset each viewport to its original scene. Then I opened the SU model (right click on viewport and choose Open with SketchUp). I used Zoom Extents for each scene, updated the scenes, and saved the changes. Then I went back to LO and resized the viewports by dragging their edges as needed.
You should check out the help files on resizing viewports.

Thanks for your help Dave R. I've been trying out your suggestions and I understand it now. Also, I somehow unlinked the model reference from LO - when I relinked it the scene updates worked (even the modified scenes).
Thanks again,

That won't last, however. Just don't make the viewports show as modified and you'll be a lot happier.
