I was working with a day-lighting consultant who showed me a great technique for understanding where the sun will be hitting your building, she simply attached her camera to the sun so as you adjust your time of day and date, what you are looking at are the surfaces that the sun is hitting. What I was hoping is that there would be some way of doing this in sketchup. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Chris. This is a neat and interesting idea. It is entirely possible to write a plugin that can do this.

The video shows a little snippet I wrote a long time ago - it just draws a square representing the Sun, and a line to the ORIGIN. It could be fairly easily made to move the camera instead. I'll play around with it over the next few days.

      Hi

Does this video look right? This is just proof-of-concept mind you - there will be a bit more work to make it user-friendly. I just thought you'd like to see it realized in SketchUp.

That looks great, exactly what I was looking for.

            Hi, Chris:
Now that your question is answered, are you a guitarist or is that your street address?

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

Guitarist. If I was good enough to make a living at it, I would play all day.

So do you think you can show me how to attach a camera to the sun?

Jim already said he was working on a plugin for you. Have some patience.
