Expired educational license Pro V8
-
Dear All,
Perhaps someone can help with this issue.
My one year educational pro license for Sketchup V8 has just expired. In previous versions Sketchup defaulted to the free version, and all was well until I extended the license for an additional year. However, Sketchup seems to be configured differently, and now won't let me in (see the attached screenshot).
Is there a way that I can get it to default to the free version, or do I have to reinstall2 the software? If the latter then where can I download a copy of Sketchup V8 as I'm not quite ready to extend the license?
Thanks for your help.
Kind regards,
Bob

Dear Bob,
As I recall, SketchUp 8 was set up so it would not revert to the free version automatically when the the pro expired. Generally that affected users of the trial version who didn't buy the license after the 8 hours were used up. I suppose the same thing is at play for you.
If you're not intending to continue with the pro version of SketchUp and you're going to have to download anyway, maybe now is the time to make the switch to the current version. You'd get an 8 hour trial of the pro version and as I understand it, SU2013 does automatically revert to the free version if you don't license it.

You can download whichever you choose from this link.

Thanks David, and thanks Box.
One last question? Should I uninstall my copy of SU V8 before reinstalling the free version, or will it just install over the top of the existing software?
Kind regards,
Bob -
I would uninstall first. If you are installing SU8 again, I would copy the Styles, Materials and Plugins folders and put them in again after you install the free version. You could do that for SU2013, too, but download fresh copies of the plugins.

Dear David,
Once again, thanks for your help.
Kind regards,

I am still having problems loading Sketchup V8 on my laptop as the University's security policy is trapping Sketchup (see the attachment). My IT chappie is getting the trap removed, but a Google search did give this:

We use Sophos, which reports this:

Are there known security issues associated with Sketchup?

Bob

Dear Bob,
I don't believe there are any security issues but you need to have administrative rights to install programs. I've run into this when trying to install tools for working on the medical equipment I take care of. For that reason and despite our IT dept.'s desire to get rid of all Win XP machines, I've kept an XP laptop just so I can run those tools.
