Painting a pyramid or a trunk of cone

Iwould like to paint a regular spiraled band on a trunk of cone (lighthouse) How to do that ??? -

I drew a helix using the Draw Helix plugin. It has the same taper as the truncated cone. I used Copy/Rotate to make a copy 180 degrees from the original. then I exploded the two helix groups so they intersected with the cone. A little paint and Bob's yer uncle.
