2d Face Me Component without Images - HELP!
-
Hello All -
There is probably a quick and simple fix but ....I just upgraded to SU 2013 from SU 8 and now my 2d Face Me components have no images ... only dark rectangles. I'm pretty sure I have an issue with regard to where SU is looking for these images ... but I don't know how to fix it.
Windows PC
SU Version: 2013Thanks,

Very possibly it is an OpenGL setting. Go to Window>Preferences and experiment with Use Fast Feedback and Hardware Acceleration settings to see if it changes. If not, upload an SKP file with a component that exhibits the issue as well as a screen shot so we can see what you see.

It may be that the images are stored within the component file structure of SU8, which is slightly different to SU13.
So perhaps you need to move a folder of images to the new SU location, or edit the properties of the components to look in the other place. -
The material libraries are in a different location in SU2013 than in SU8 but materials that are used in the SketchUp model become part of the SKP file and so the location of the original texture files is not of consideration. The reference is not back to the original material library. The materials used in the model are shown in the In Model library. If they were referenced back, lots of model files uploaded to the warehouse would exhibit this problem for users because they wouldn't have the original texture files.

OK ... so I played with the Open GL settings without success and I only started having these issues upon upgrading from SU8 to SU2013. Another question (which is perhaps related to this issue): has anyone put together a "checklist" for successfully transferring over setting, folder locations, etc. for SU8 to SU2013? Of course like many, I had SU8 and Layout dialed in just the way I liked them with components, texture references ... and I'm having a bit of problem getting that all back together. while I'm pretty good with the software, I not much of a computer person when it comes to linking up the appropriate folders and such.
I think this may be the issue with these 2d Face Me components as well.

I don't know of a checklist per se but it shouldn't be too difficult. where are your materials and components located for SU8? Are they under SketchUp's Materials and Components folders? If so, you can either link to those local collections where they reside or copy them to SU2013's folders or even put them somewhere else. Then just use Open or Create a Local Collection from the Details menus followed by Add to Favorites from the same menus.
The only content you should avoid copying directly would be plugins. Download fresh copies of the plugins you use.
Regarding your component issue, as I wrote before, the materials used on the component are part of the component's SKP file and do not depend upon the original texture file's library location. If it did, it would be similar to Microsoft Word which depends upon the viewer having the same font as the author or the document for proper viewing. SketchUp files are more like PDFs in that fonts are embedded in PDF files.
