[REQ] zoom extent of active group/component?

you don't need any plugin. just select an item in the viewport.
then open window->preference->shortcuts and tipe in the filter "zoom extents"
now assign some shortcut to the command "Edit/Item/Zoom Extents" not to be confused with "Camera/Zoom Extents"
also note that is mandatory you have an item selected when you open the preferences windows, if you don't, the command will not show up in the list. -
There's a Zoom Extents in the Context menu that will do what you need. No keyboard shortcut required. Right click the desired entity and choose Zoom Extents. You're there. Can't get much more user friendly than that. It works on selected edges and faces, too.
