I think this is a bug - it tried searching for it but came up with nothing. When I am in a regular view mode with x-ray turned off, I can cycle between shadows on ground plane or not, no problem. If I go to x-ray mode, however, whether I have the box for ground plane checked or not, shadows are always displayed on the ground plane. anyone else have this issue, know how to work around it? I know I could just move my model up, but I have several saved views that would then be messed up.

I don't know if it is a bug or not but I see it too. At least I do on my Mac.

According to the research I've done, it's not possible to move the origin, at least as far as what SU recognizes as the ground plane, is that correct?

            Seems to work for me.

So for me on the PC, I can't change the shadows on the ground when in X-ray mode. As in your screen shot, Box, the selections are grayed out when in X-ray mode and shadows are cast on the ground plane. Even if shadows on the ground is turned off while in non-X-ray mode, switching to X-ray mode turns them on.

On the Mac the tick box could be ticked or not ticked but it didn't change the shadow.

So is this a graphics card thing? An OpenGL setting? Changing those settings in Preferences doesn't seem to make any difference.

Try turning the shadows on and off on the ground plane while in normal mode a couple of times. I can repeat the problem but can't see how. It appears that some sort of random swapping of the tics on the shadow options dialog make it work.

It is always grayed out when in xray, and shows ground plane ticked whether it was that way or not.

Hmm... I tried it but I don't seem to have any change. Every time I go to X-ray the ground plane box gets ticked and grayed out and there's a shadow on the ground.

That's what it was doing on mine. All I can tell you is, randomly ticking the options and turning shadows on and off a few times and it eventually removed the ground shadow. I guess you have to hold your mouth the right way.

That's probably the answer to a lot of "bugs". πŸ˜„

I get the same, ground shadow turns on with xray and can't be unticked.

My check box is tickable, but it does not have an effect even if turned off. I will try turning on and off in other modes, then switching to x-ray.

Yes, the tick box is tickable on Mac but not on PC. Since it doesn't seem to do anything it might as well be grayed out.

Maybe it's a combination. Click it three times while in Monochrome, twice while in Hidden Line, Switch to X-ray, Switch back to Hidden Line, tick the box again... πŸ˜„ I doubt it though. I think it is either a bug or a shortcoming of OpenGL.
