      hi all,

going through the manual issue by issue. stuck at translucent materials. find them intoxicating! except can't seem to make them work, attached is a screen grab of the setting i am using. perhaps my scene setup is not optimized to show translucency? I have a simple studio setup with a rectangular light above the object and slighlty behind. I'd love to get the results from the vray manual. I am using version 1.48.

Hmm, I was looking at settings for some of the pre-made materials that are available. One suggestion/ correction for your material setup is that your refraction transparency color should be black, not white. The other suggestion is that you will not see the effect of translucency if you have strong global lighting. It is a weak effect, and you will only see it in a low light setting with a strong light behind the material.

That's a good question. I run into problems with that too, the translucency option makes the material (nearly) opaque. To get a more pronounced effect, what I do is to turn translucency off, and use the refraction glossiness and fog color to control the transmission of my material.

              Hi all,

I see that the topic is old, but I think that I can help somebody else, who just starts with VRay for SU.
I'm a brand new newbie and I'm still busy with the manual of Vray for SU.
I also just stuck with the translucent materials - I made tousands changes in order to get the proper look of the material, but the result was - just solid opaque material.
Than I started to search the web and I found this helpful tut:

The MOST important here is that we don't needed to check the translucent checkbox! Strange, but it perfectly works! Then the result is great and what is needed!!! β˜€
