Creating a fence line along a path problems
-
Hi,
I have a Solar Farm that I am working on. it is a huge site covering 26 hectares. The entire site has a 2m high perimeter fence which I have modeled a section of. My issue is how do I repeat this fence component along the perimeter of the site. The terrain has been modeled from surveyed contour data so the fence does not run along a flat surface.
I have tried using component stringer however the fence has to be 2m high and when scaling is set to none there are a lot of gaps. I have also tried copy along path which doesn't seem to work at all as the scale and angles go completely out of sync.
At the moment I am having to resort to just copy each section and then adjusting angle/height individually however this is just too time consuming.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Alex

Can you export a small part of if for experiments?

Thanks Giles
I have seen that but it'a work project and son't think they are going to want to spend any money, I'm not even on pro. Was hoping for a free script

You mention using a drop plugin to insert your sun collectors in another thread, can you not do the same with the fence.
Create the fence path above your terrain, use component stringer to copy the fence sections around the flat path, then drop it onto the terrain.
If your end points are the same distance apart as your component length you should have no gaps. The structure of the fence and the wildness of the terrain may make this not work, but as you haven't given anything to experiment with it is only guess work.Throw to is another plugin that may work as a dropper.

++1 on Vali script. You can use scripts in Free SketchUp, can't you? Well worth the price of $26 I have to tell you. Think about it, if its takes you 3 hours of your billable time to figure this out, isn't it worth it? This plugin has saved me hours upon hours of fence and railing modeling and I have only owned it for a couple of months.

I'm loving my Instant Fence... although you can make most fences with Instant Wall too.

I was going to say. Not sure if there's a style for what you want, but if there is-- at those prices it's a question do they want to buy the SW or have you spend more hours? In the right instance VA tools eliminate a lot of tedious time drawing.
