Problem with not-solid manifold
-
Hi there, Im a total beginner and will need some assistance with sketchup 8 , I created half of a sphere and extruded the bottom of it to create a cylinder with round top.
after that I tried to punch a thru hole on the top of that solid by drawing a cylinder and intersecting the common surface , then deleting the part that was sticking out. I assumed that this would create a solid but I gues I was wrong.
Hope that makes sense,
How would I make a solid manifold out of that for 3d printing ? See attached.
Thanks ,
Veetek,

It would be solid once you make it a group or component IF you fix the tiny little holes you have. There's one where the green arrow is and another on the opposite side. Trace an edge of the opening and the faces will heal. Also make sure you maintain the correct face orientation. The faces inside the hole are reversed. I corrected that before making the screen shot.

Thanks for your help.

There are two tiny holes in your shape, Su has problems creating faces with edges under 1 mm.
first before doing intersection scale up you model to avoid this "limitation" when your model is ready for printing go back to original scale.
Use Thomthom Solid inspector ( plugin store ) to check your shape.
Welcome here, you will find all the help you could need and much more.

Thanks again.
Right click on the blue surface and choose Reverse Faces.
You're welcome.
