Best way to make organic, spider-web like forms?

hi!
i want to try to do some stuff like this:
Protohouse
The Protohouse project was developed in the Architectural Association School's Design Research Lab within the 'behavioral matter' studio of Robert Stuart-Smith. The Protohouse investigated the...
Tumblr (protohouse.tumblr.com)
what plugins should i get? is there an easy way to sort of 3d design these organic shapes? i was thinking maybe some combination of 'draw on surface' tools (freehand drawing on a sphere, for example), and then the follow me tool over the lines to give it the desired thickness?
any other suggestions?
thanks!

maybe lattice maker?

i don't think that stuff is modeled per se..
the models are more 'grown' using some seriously nerdy (good nerdy) maths.. i think the best way achieve this stuff in sketchup itself would be through ruby (though i wouldn't know where to begin with such a task).. but we've seen some hints of it with plugins such as make fur and the tree and ivy makers..
if you want to actually model some of this stuff in sketchup, i think it would be wiser to simply draw inspiration from it but come up with models which aren't replicas (as in, i really do think it would be next to impossible to make replicas in sketchup.)
some works by forum member Olishea come to mind:
he uses the Artisan plugin for this -
Better is use the free crazzy Top Mod then import the model inside Sketchup with the free Import OBJ by TIG

there is also a mac version
I've been trying (and failing) to make forms like this in SU for quite a while.
We need a Voronoi Tools-on-Surface plugin! Could make any shape you want and then seamlessly tesselate a voronoi pattern, I'm dreaming.
